Chan Zuckerberg Initiative

Examples of work from my time at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, a new kind of philanthropy working at the intersection of grant-making, technology, and research. The second-largest organization of its kind, in terms of endowment, CZI is uniquely situated to provide industry-best engineering and technology support in addition to funding for its partners.

I was originally hired as the Marketing Director for Education Partnerships, but was shortly thereafter promoted to Creative Director, Central Brand, under the Chief Communications Officer. My role included building out the organization’s first-ever multidisciplinary in-house creative team, which included videography, photography, copywriting and content creation, graphic design, web design, and illustration. I also oversaw the design and build of a multi-million dollar production studio in one of their campuses in Redwood City, greatly expanded and evolved the CZI brand identity, and completely rebuilt and reimagined the CZI website property from scratch.

A highlight of my time as the CD was the opportunity to concept and co-executive produce a 360º/VR film that shined a spotlight on heroes fighting infectious disease in the developing world – a film titled Infectious Disease Detectives – which we won multiple awards and recognitions for, including the Webbys, Shortys, MUSE Creative Awards, AVA Digital, and MarCom awards. More important than the accolades though was the attention the film garnered from other philanthropic organizations, who began contributing more funds to the hardware and software being used by the doctors in these countries, enabling more lives to be saved as a result.
